Chinley is a rural village in the High Peak borough of Derbyshire, England.

Nestled away in the north-west corner of the Peak District, Chinley is now a large, established village with a rich history of railways. A legacy of fine railway bridges and viaducts can be seen around Chinley, and it must have been an amazing sight in the era of the steam engine.

Historically, before the coming of the railway, the area was economically dominated by agriculture. Nowadays most inhabitants commute out of the village to work; accessible centres of work include Stockport, Sheffield and Manchester.

Many of the houses, villas and cottages in the village date from the Victorian times; they were originally built to function as accommodation for railway workers or millworkers at the time.

Chinley is surrounded by dramatic Dark Peak countryside views that take in acres and acres of vast moorland. However, centuries ago it was actually part of the Royal Forest of the Peak, which covered an area of 180 square miles!

The impressive, rolling scenery and rich history make Chinley the perfect location for a Freshwalks pitstop!
