Pendle Hill

Pendleton – Nick of Pendle – Pendle Hill – Pendleton

This nine-mile circuit avoids the busy honeypot routes to explore the lesser-known crags, cloughs and ghylls on the rugged slopes of Pendle.

We start in the pretty village of Pendleton and climb to the Nick o’ Pendle before walking along whaleback ridge to reach the summit trig on the ‘Big End’ for outstanding views over the Ribble Valley, Forest of Pendle and up to the Limestone country of the Yorkshire Dales.

On a clear day, the Lakeland Fells and even the mountains of Snowdonia should be visible. We return via the western edge of the summit plateau descending beside one of the steep cloughs on the western flank to return to our start point.
