Pendle Hill from Downham

Downham – Pendle Hill – Ogden Clough – Nick o’Pendle – Worston – Downham

This challenging 18.5km circuit explores some of the lesser-known crags, cloughs and ghylls on the rugged slopes of Pendle. We start in the pretty village of Downham and set off in the direction of Barley before ascending the steep eastern flanks of Pendle. The summit trig on the ‘Big End’ offers outstanding views over the Ribble Valley, Forest of Pendle and up to the Limestone country of the Yorkshire Dales. On a clear day, the Lakeland Fells and even the mountains of Snowdonia should be visible. We return by walking along whaleback ridge down towards Nick o’Pendle before looping back to Downham via Worston. A vintage Pendle loop.
