Upper Derwent Visitor Centre – Howden Reservoir – Alport Castles – Upper Derwent Visitor Centre (approx 18km)
Welcome to Freshwalks and a truly epic circular hike of the Upper Derwent Valley, including stunning early springtime forest, moorland and reservoir walking.
We intend to start the walk from Upper Derwent Visitor Centre at 10:00 but ask walkers to meet from 09:45 onwards.
The plan is to loop around Upper Derwent and Howden Reservoirs, heading in the direction of the remote Howden Moors. We then turn around and climb up towards the incredible Alport Castles before dropping back through the forest and along the reservoir to our starting point.
